Case Study: Bayernwerk achieves unified network management and improved data quality with Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division

A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study

Preview of the Bayernwerk Case Study

Bayernwerk Improves Network Management with Unified System

Bayernwerk, the largest electric and gas distribution operator in Bavaria serving more than two million customers, faced fragmented network management after a merger left it with six different GIS systems of mixed quality. To standardize access and improve data quality—converting raster and CAD sources to intelligent vector data—Bayernwerk selected Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division and deployed Intergraph G/Technology with pre-configured G!NIUS data models to migrate and consolidate legacy systems into a unified database.

Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division led the migration and provided quality-control and data-capture tools, enabling a 120,000 km initial data capture and the consolidation of six systems into one platform used by 1,400 employees across 19 regional centers and nearly 600 mobile technicians. The solution streamlined planning, maintenance, fault management and network calculation, supports 265,000 renewable feed-ins, sped up incident response (including a GPS-based gas fault system to meet tighter restoration rules) and helped Bayernwerk reduce outages—earning a bonus from the Federal Network Agency—while lowering operating costs and improving decision support.
