A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
BASF Antwerp, the largest chemical production site in Belgium with 3,500 employees and 360 miles of underground pipelines, faced fragmented CAD, sensor, imagery and facilities data that limited situational awareness, asset visualization and safety. To transform its 600‑hectare site into a smart site, BASF Antwerp partnered with Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division and deployed Hexagon’s Luciad portfolio as the foundation of HxGN Smart Sites to integrate disparate data into a single platform.
Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division implemented a digital twin that consolidates aerial imagery, LiDAR, CAD, live sensors and operational systems into a role-based common operating picture, organizing data into more than 250 themes so the right users see the right information. The solution delivered real-time asset and refueling visualization, weather-aware support for the fire brigade, georeferenced task planning for contractors, corrected cleaning invoices that reduced cleaning costs, and faster emergency decision-making through integrated feeds to the fire brigade, site security and crisis center.
