A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
The Australian Federal Police (AFP), which handles federal law enforcement, protective security and overseas interests, was struggling with radio congestion—at times as many as 3,000 personnel active simultaneously—lengthy waits to log into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, and no real‑time officer tracking. To modernize communications under its Unified Operational Communications project, the AFP deployed Hexagon's Mobile Responder solution from Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division.
Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division integrated Mobile Responder with the AFP’s Hexagon CAD to deliver person‑level GPS tracking (locations reported every 30 seconds), CAD logon/off without voice, in-field incident updates, and messaging between officers and control rooms. The Hexagon solution reduced radio traffic, enhanced officer safety and situational awareness, kept personnel productive across shifts and locations, and produced more accurate, real‑time CAD records that improved operational statistics and management reporting.
