A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study
Alectra Utilities, the second-largest municipally owned electric utility in North America serving more than 1 million customers across 17 communities (about 2,000 km²), inherited four separate GIS-based network management systems after merging Enersource, Horizon Utilities, PowerStream and Brampton Hydro. To eliminate disjointed practices, inefficiencies and incompatible data, Alectra selected Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division and its HxGN NetWorks geospatial asset management system to provide a quick, user-friendly consolidation-first solution.
Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division implemented a single companywide HxGN NetWorks network model that consolidated four GIS systems into one authoritative source, added a single web-based enterprise network viewer, and established governance-driven optimizations. The project delivered clean, consistent, real-time data across the enterprise, reduced licensing/support/training overhead, was completed on time and within budget, and positioned Alectra to onboard a fifth utility—strengthening resiliency and streamlining operations for its 1M+ customers.
