Case Study: Alberta Transportation achieves enterprise road-network management and improved data access with Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division

A Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division Case Study

Preview of the Alberta Transportation Case Study

Alberta Uses Geospatial Solutions to Manage Complete Road Network

Alberta Transportation, which manages a 34,000‑kilometre provincial highway network, needed an infrastructure information system after outsourcing much field work to integrate external data, ensure accuracy, provide web access, and support a distributed operations model. To address these challenges, Alberta Transportation engaged Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division and selected Hexagon’s Road and Rail Infrastructure Management Solution built on GeoMedia products (including GeoMedia WebMap) to extend its Transportation Information Management System (TIMS) with dynamic segmentation and enterprise web services.

Hexagon's Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial Division implemented GeoMedia WebMap and related modules to make TIMS a single authoritative knowledge portal, giving regional offices fast access to maps, aerial photos, video and boundary data while propagating updates across the network. The solution improved data integrity and visibility, automated data-entry workflows, enabled spatial analysis of collisions, pavement and traffic counts (including use of Hexagon’s SLD), and reduced field trips and consultant data requests—saving significant time and money—and has received positive feedback across Alberta Transportation.
