ZF Wind Power - Customer Case Study

ZF Wind Power, a manufacturer of wind turbine drivetrains, faced the challenge of designing more power-dense and lightweight gearboxes while minimizing transmission error to prevent tonal noise from the powertrain. To address this, the company worked with vendor Hexagon and used their Romax Enduro software for advanced simulation and analysis.

Hexagon's solution involved using Romax Enduro to create high-fidelity simulation models of the drivetrain to optimize gear loading and transmission error. This simulation-led process resulted in significant benefits for ZF Wind Power, including an improved gear load carrying capacity that allows for either a reduction in material costs or an increase in the unit's torque capacity, all while achieving a low risk of transmission noise validated by strong correlation with physical test rig data.
