Winning Olympic medals with Leica Absolute Scanner LAS and LAS-XL

The customer, Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA), required an efficient way to perform high-precision dimensional control on scale models of boat hulls and propellers at its Hydrodynamic Experiences Centre of El Pardo (CEHIPAR). The challenge was to verify the exact geometry of these components, which is vital for hydrodynamic research, as manual measurement methods were extremely time-consuming, taking up to three days to complete. To meet this challenge, they partnered with vendor Hexagon.

Hexagon implemented its Leica Absolute Tracker and Leica Absolute Scanner LAS handheld laser scanner. This solution enabled INTA's researchers to scan large objects quickly and generate comprehensive dimensional reports in just one to two hours instead of days. The Hexagon technology provided a massive increase in efficiency with minimal human and mechanical resources, directly contributing to research that improves the performance of Olympic-level vessels.
