WeserWind GmbH - Customer Case Study

WeserWind GmbH, an offshore construction company, faced the challenge of ensuring the dimensional accuracy of massive steel tripod foundations for offshore wind turbines. These structures, which can be 60 meters tall and weigh 960 tons, must be manufactured to tight tolerances to ensure reliable assembly at sea. The company required a measurement system capable of operating under extreme production site conditions, including high altitudes and strong winds. Hexagon addressed this challenge with its portable DPA 3D measurement system.

The solution implemented by Hexagon was the mobile DPA photogrammetry system, which is lightweight and designed for use in challenging environments. It allowed for the fast and accurate measurement of critical geometry on the tripods, enabling early detection of deviations. The average measurement of a flange, including reporting, was completed in under an hour. This ensured the reliability of subsequent assembly processes and supported WeserWind's serial production of these complex structures, establishing them as a competent and reliable partner. Hexagon also provided specialized adapters and developed an automated test sequence with report creation for the project.
