Weiss Watch Company cuts 60 watch cases from one bar with Hexagon

Weiss Watch Company, an American heirloom watchmaker, faced the challenge of efficiently producing high-precision, small watch components as a one-man operation. Their goal was to bring more manufacturing in-house, adhere to tight tolerances, and achieve lights-out machining without hiring additional staff. To overcome this, they implemented Hexagon's ESPRIT CAM software to program a new, highly complex Chiron mill-turn machine tool.

The solution from Hexagon provided a powerful digital twin and simulation capabilities, allowing for accurate programming of the multi-axis machine and preventing crashes. This enabled Weiss Watch Company to machine nearly all components in-house, drastically reduce setups, and produce more complex geometries. The results included machining 60 watch cases from a single bar of material and gaining the capability to offer competitive case-making services to other watch companies.
