A Hexagon Case Study
The Waitaki District Council, a local government in New Zealand, faced the challenge of making its district planning maps and data accessible to the public. Their previous process of providing information via PDFs upon request was inefficient. To involve the community in a plan revision, the council needed a better way to share interactive maps. They turned to Hexagon and implemented a solution using its GeoMedia product suite.
Hexagon's GeoMedia WebMap and GeoMedia Smart Client enabled the council to create an online, self-service portal. This solution made GIS data freely available, allowing residents and planners to access zoning, utilities, and environmental data interactively. The results were increased transparency, a more efficient public feedback process, and a significant time saving for the council's staff. Hexagon's technology empowered the public and supported the council's digital transformation goals.
