A Hexagon Case Study
Vorarlberger Illwerke AG, an Austrian energy company, faced significant challenges in constructing its underground Obervermuntwerk II pumped-storage power plant. The harsh subterranean environment, characterized by high humidity, dust, and tight spaces, required a measurement system that was not only extremely precise but also highly portable and robust. To meet this need, the company turned to Hexagon and its Leica Absolute Tracker AT960 system.
Hexagon's solution provided the necessary portability and precision for the demanding cavern conditions. The Leica Absolute Tracker AT960, along with the Leica T-Probe and Leica T-Scan 5, enabled accurate component alignment and scanning without requiring a plant shutdown. This allowed Vorarlberger Illwerke to efficiently align large components like turbine spirals and scan parts for wear and tear, contributing to the project's success and the ongoing maintenance of its power plants. The customer cited the system's robustness, WiFi capability, and the valuable ongoing support from Hexagon as key benefits.
