Volvo Car Gent - Customer Case Study

Volvo Car Gent N.V. faced a challenge in maintaining its stringent quality standards for vehicle assembly, particularly in measuring the positions of irregularly shaped welded studs on car bodies. The previous tactile measurement method was a bottleneck, requiring slow manual intervention with plastic cylinders that wore out quickly. The customer needed a faster, more accurate process to meet tighter tolerances.

Hexagon implemented an in-line solution using their DEA BRAVO HP measuring systems equipped with a CMS106 laser sensor. This optical system captures data without physical contact and is immune to ambient light interference. The solution delivered by Hexagon made the measurement process nine times faster, reducing the time to check over 170 connecting pins from three hours to just 20 minutes, while also improving accuracy and eliminating manual steps.
