Volkswagen AG - Customer Case Study

Volkswagen AG faced a challenge in its Components Toolmaking Division, where producing large, high-precision injection molds and dies required time-consuming offline verification. This secondary clamping for measurement led to production delays and potential losses in accuracy. To promote smoother operations and shorten the overall production cycle, Volkswagen partnered with vendor Hexagon to implement m&h touch probes and the 3D Form Inspect software for on-machine measurement.

Hexagon's solution allowed workpieces to be measured and verified directly on the machining center, eliminating the need for removal until they were confirmed to be correct. The software integrated with CAD data to generate measurement programs and compensated for machine thermal changes. This resulted in a verifiable leap in quality, significantly reduced total production time, and increased process reliability, achieving Volkswagen's goal of a "zero-milling strategy."
