Voith Turbo - Customer Case Study

For over 40 years, Voith Turbo has relied on Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence's coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to ensure the precision of its drive components, such as gearboxes and retarders, manufactured at its Garching facility. The challenge was to maintain an excellent price-performance ratio while supporting production with high-accuracy inspections, including initial samples and supplier part checks, with tolerances as tight as a few hundredths of a millimetre.

Hexagon provided a long-term solution with a fleet of its DEA CMMs, including Scirocco and GLOBAL models, all running PC-DMIS metrology software. This hardware and software combination allowed for automated inspections from an easy-to-use interface and offline programming. The investment in an offline programming station from Hexagon increased programming capacity by 30%, and the reliable machines have been in service for decades, with some even transferred to other global subsidiaries.
