Vestas Nacelles - Customer Case Study

Vestas Nacelles, a manufacturer of large wind turbine components, faced the challenge of ensuring perfect quality control for massive parts where a single error could result in €20,000 in scrap costs. Their existing measurement process was time-consuming and required multiple operators, so they sought a faster, more efficient solution. They turned to Hexagon Metrology for a new high-capacity portable measuring system to integrate into their production.

Hexagon provided Vestas with Leica Absolute Tracker AT901 laser trackers and a ROMER Absolute Arm. The trackers' PowerLock technology cut measurement time per object by up to two hours and reduced the required personnel from two to one operator. The measuring arm brought a process that previously took days down to just 10 minutes and paid for itself in under six months. Hexagon's solution provided Vestas with reliable data, improved process robustness, and significantly lowered the cost of poor quality.
