A Hexagon Case Study
CERN, the European Organisation for Particle Physics, required a highly precise and reliable production process for complex mechanical components used in particle detectors and accelerators. Their challenge involved moving from a system based on 2D drawings to one that utilized 3D models to improve quality and involve workshop technicians directly in the CAM programming process. To address this, they implemented WorkNC CAM software from Hexagon.
With the solution from Hexagon, CERN equipped its workshop technicians with WorkNC to generate and simulate toolpaths directly on the shop floor. This allowed for highly efficient production, reliable cost estimations for complex parts, and significantly improved traceability and efficiency. Hexagon's software enabled CERN to combine their technicians' skills with advanced CAM performance, resulting in a more reliable and precise manufacturing process for their critical research equipment.
