A Hexagon Case Study
A large mining company, specifically two open-pit copper mines in Peru, partnered with Hexagon to address the challenge of maximizing production and profits. The mines faced highly variable and uncertain conditions where inconsistent rock fragmentation from blasting was negatively affecting all downstream processes, from mining and crushing to milling. Their key objectives were to optimize resources, improve fragmentation, and increase the efficiency of their equipment and SAG mill throughput.
Hexagon implemented its HxGN Split solution, utilizing Split-ShovelCam and Split-TruckCam systems to measure rock fragmentation. By analyzing this data, the mines were able to adjust their blast designs, which led to significant improvements. The results included a 50% increase in fine material, a 20% boost in equipment productivity, a 13% reduction in mill energy consumption, and a 12% increase in mill throughput. This collectively resulted in a substantial USD $7.5 million per month increase in revenue for the customer.
