Case Study: Rutland Plastics boosts COVID-19 PPE production with Hexagon VISI

Two-impression tool made through VISI helps school’s COVID-19 plan

Rutland Plastics, a toolmaker and plastic injection moulder, faced the challenge of helping a local school rapidly scale its production of PPE headbands from just a handful per day to meet urgent demand at the start of the COVID-19 crisis. They turned to Hexagon's VISI software to find a more cost-effective alternative to slow 3D printing.

Using Hexagon's VISI for design and CAM toolpath creation, Rutland Plastics designed and produced a two-impression mould tool in under a week. This solution enabled them to injection mould 25,000 headbands, boosting their client's output to 8,000 visors per day for distribution to frontline NHS staff and key workers.
