A Hexagon Case Study
Tenneco, a leading designer and manufacturer of automotive exhaust systems, faced the challenge of developing an active exhaust system for noise cancellation and sound generation. Their engineers needed a way to accurately design the critical loudspeaker housing without relying on expensive and time-consuming physical prototypes. They turned to Hexagon and used its Actran acoustic simulation software to create a virtual model of the system.
The solution from Hexagon involved using Actran to provide a full electroacoustic model of the loudspeaker, which accurately simulated its performance both alone and when integrated into a complete exhaust system. The simulation results correlated very closely with physical tests. This approach allowed Tenneco to evaluate many design concepts rapidly without building prototypes, leading to the development of a next-generation system with improved performance that can be brought to market faster.
