A Hexagon Case Study
The Calarasi County Council in Romania and the Polski Trambesh Municipality in Bulgaria faced a significant challenge with frequent, damaging floods from the Danube and Yantra rivers. Without a modern forecasting and early warning system, they were unable to effectively mitigate risks or coordinate emergency responses. They partnered with Hexagon through their local partner, Intergraph Computer Services, to implement the Risk Management IT System, which leveraged multiple Hexagon geospatial technologies.
The solution implemented by Hexagon provided 3D flood simulations for forecasting and used live sensor data to issue early warnings, greatly improving disaster preparedness and inter-agency cooperation. The measurable results are substantial: approximately 300,000 citizens have benefited from coordinated risk management, and around 150,000 have benefited from reduced emergency reaction times. The system has led to significant savings in time, resources, and money while enhancing public safety across the region.
