Sound Attenuation Prediction of High Speed Railway Sound Barrier with Actran

China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC), the survey and design arm of CHINA RAILWAY, faced a challenge in designing effective sound barriers for high-speed railways. Their traditional semi-analytical formulas could not accurately predict noise reduction for complex barrier shapes and absorbing materials, leading to large deviations from real-world results and limiting design innovation. To solve this, they turned to Hexagon and adopted its Actran software.

The solution from Hexagon utilized Actran's capabilities to model complex geometrical forms, sound-absorbing boundaries, and multiple acoustic sources via its API. This allowed for accurate, large-scale simulation of noise propagation. The result was a highly accurate prediction of insertion loss that closely matched test results, enabling CRDC to develop more efficient and complex sound barrier designs to mitigate railway noise effectively.
