A Hexagon Case Study
The customer, SHW Bearbeitungstechnik GmbH, a contract manufacturer of large and complex cast parts, required a way to accurately and efficiently set up and measure large workpieces up to 18 meters long on their machining centers. Their challenge was to reduce setup times, ensure process reliability, and prevent errors during production. They implemented radio-wave touch probes from the vendor, Hexagon.
Hexagon's solution was the implementation of m&h radio-wave touch probes, which use a secure 433 MHz transmission band with 64 selectable channels to reliably transmit data over large distances. This allowed for quick calibration, zero-point finding, and in-process check measurements. The results were significantly accelerated setup and production times, enhanced process reliability, and the prevention of rejects. The customer confirmed the probes paid for themselves and became an integral part of their production for years without any problems.
