SEAT Group, a Spanish automotive manufacturer part of the Volkswagen group, faced the challenge of ensuring the perfect fit and finish of its vehicles to meet high customer expectations for perceived quality. To achieve this, they partnered with vendor Hexagon to implement a comprehensive metrology solution utilizing 3D probing and scanning technologies, including the Absolute Arm, Leica Absolute Tracker, and WLS400M white light scanner.

Hexagon's solution enabled SEAT's quality control teams to capture and analyze data from components and vehicles with unprecedented speed and accuracy, increasing their measurement capacity from one to 200,000 measurements per second. The use of Hexagon's software, including PC-DMIS and CoreView, allowed engineers to quickly identify issues and share insights with suppliers. This resulted in a much more effective process for introducing improvements and ensuring the quality of the over 440,000 cars produced annually at their Martorell site.
