A Hexagon Case Study
Samsung Electronics, a leading global electronics manufacturer, faced a significant challenge in reducing vibrations in its washing machines. The design initiatives for increased capacity and spin speed conflicted with industry-wide weight and cost reduction goals, and the complex, nonlinear components like rubber gaskets made accurate dynamic modeling difficult. To tackle this, Samsung partnered with vendor Hexagon to utilize an Adams-Marc co-simulation powered by Hexagon's MSC CoSim technology.
The solution involved creating a co-simulated model that combined a multibody dynamics model in Adams with a nonlinear finite element analysis model in Marc. This approach accurately captured the complex behavior of the rubber diaphragm and other components, providing realistic system dynamics that previous methods could not. The results from Hexagon's solution provided Samsung with crucial design insights, allowing for direct comparison of gasket designs. This led to an understanding of how to decrease the force transferred to the machine's frame, which is a key step in Samsung's ongoing journey toward vibration reduction and robust design.
