Shine Food Machinery, a UK-based manufacturer of commercial kitchens, faced a challenge ensuring that the grain and top faces of their sheet metal components were aesthetically consistent across all their products. Their existing software, Hexagon's RADAN, was nesting parts to optimize sheet material usage, which sometimes resulted in parts being cut with the grain in the wrong direction, leading to scrap and assembly issues.

Hexagon developed a bespoke macro for their RADAN software that utilized a 'F-Stop' marker placed on designs. This innovation allowed the software to automatically nest parts with the correct grain orientation and top face, prioritizing aesthetics over sheer material optimization. The solution from Hexagon dramatically reduced scrap, saved days of manual labor on large contracts, and improved overall production efficiency and part identification for Shine Food Machinery.
