Volvo Car Body Components in Olofström, a production plant for Volvo Car Gent, faced a challenge in improving the productivity of its tool prototyping and production process. The Tool and Die team needed a modern metrology solution that was as effective on the shop floor as in the quality room to optimize milling setup, reduce material usage, and speed up quality inspection. Hexagon implemented a system centered around the Leica Absolute Tracker AT960, complemented by the Leica Absolute Scanner LAS-XL and the Leica T-Scan 5 handheld scanner. This portable solution provided comprehensive scan data that optimized CNC milling programs, significantly reducing machine lead time and raw material consumption. The ability to quickly identify manufacturing defects on the shop floor accelerated quality inspection and tool maintenance.
