Pre-setting and measuring for semi-automated tool making with the DEA GLOBAL and PC-DMIS

Wild & Küpfer AG, a Swiss manufacturer of custom plastic injection molds and parts, faced the challenge of ensuring high accuracy in its semi-automated tool making process. Their toolmakers needed to reduce errors and simplify the complex measurement of unique, custom-made tools and electrodes. To address this, they partnered with vendor Hexagon and implemented the DEA GLOBAL Advantage coordinate measuring machine with the PC-DMIS software suite.

Hexagon's solution integrated the measuring machine directly into the workshop's data management system. This allowed for automated pre-setting to acquire tool offset data and precise measurement of workpieces between machining steps. The implementation resulted in a dramatic 90% reduction in pre-setting errors, significantly reduced set-up times, and easier measurement programming for electrodes through the use of macros.
