Pistol GmbH - Customer Case Study

Pistol GmbH, a German supplier of precision tools and molds for investment foundries, faced the challenge of manufacturing extremely fine, high-tolerance components while needing to detect errors early to avoid costly rework and production delays. To achieve this, they partnered with vendor Hexagon and implemented its m&h touch probes and 3D Form Inspect software to measure workpieces directly on the machine.

The solution from Hexagon allowed for on-machine measurement and inspection, including a patented short calibration and tilting error compensation for reliable, repeatable results. This enabled Pistol GmbH to identify and correct deviations immediately, drastically reducing reworking and rejects. The implementation led to significantly improved quality, reduced setup times using the Best Fit module, and eliminated production loops, allowing them to achieve impressive manufacturing lead times of 4 to 6 weeks for complex tools.
