Petroleum Development Oman improves alarm management and establishes OT/ICS cybersecurity best practices with Hexagon

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the leading oil and gas exploration and production company in Oman, was facing significant challenges with an overwhelming number of alarm events, with console operators receiving up to 4,000 alarms per hour. This severely hampered their ability to respond effectively and posed risks to operational safety and efficiency. To address this, PDO partnered with Hexagon and utilized its PAS AlarmManagement™ solution to begin implementing alarm management best practices.

Hexagon helped PDO host alarm rationalization workshops, which drastically reduced the alarm rate presented to operators to an average of three per hour, with peaks limited to twenty. This put PDO in line with ISA/IEC standards and greatly improved operator efficiency and safety. Later, the partnership expanded with a five-year agreement for Hexagon to implement its PAS Cyber Integrity™ solution, which was delivered ahead of schedule. The collaboration provided PDO with a realistic roadmap for operational technology cybersecurity, enhancing the protection of its assets.
