Case Study: Engineering Technology Associates achieves real-time pedestrian hood safety analysis with Hexagon ODYSSEE

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the Engineering Technology Associates Case Study

Pedestrian protection using the ODYSSEE Suite

Engineering Technology Associates (ETA), an engineering services provider to the automotive industry, faced the challenge of inefficiently analyzing pedestrian safety for car hoods. Manually simulating hundreds of potential head impact locations to assess injury risk was time-consuming, as each simulation was run independently. To increase efficiency, ETA sought a solution that could use machine learning to quickly predict injury scores across the entire hood.

Hexagon implemented its ODYSSEE suite, using both the CAE and A-Eye products. After being trained on just 12 simulations, the machine learning models could predict injury values in seconds. Hexagon's solution enabled ETA to accurately analyze 53 impact locations almost instantly, with the predictions showing a near-perfect correlation to full simulations. This provided a real-time method for assessing hood design safety, drastically speeding up the product development process.
