Paving the way to repeatability and accuracy

Triumph Group, a manufacturer of precision aerospace gears and components, faced a significant challenge in its inspection department. As the company began producing larger, more complex parts like helicopter gear casings, its existing coordinate measuring machine (CMM) created a bottleneck. The process of manually rotating these large parts for inspection was slow, causing delays and a backlog. The company needed a new, larger, and more accurate measurement solution to maintain its quality standards and facilitate further growth.

The solution was a GLOBAL Advantage CMM from vendor Hexagon, equipped with PC-DMIS software and a high-performance scanning probe. This new system eliminated the need to manually rotate the large helicopter component, saving 20-24 hours of inspection time per assembly. The increased speed and accuracy provided by Hexagon's technology eliminated the inspection backlog, doubled the department's overall capacity, and allowed Triumph to confidently take on new, more complex work.
