A Hexagon Case Study
Watson Gym Equipment, a UK-based manufacturer of high-end strength training equipment, faced significant challenges with its manual process for cutting and preparing box section steel. The labor-intensive workflow was time-consuming, prone to human error, and resulted in inconsistencies, taking up to two days to build a single apparatus. This prompted them to seek a solution from vendor Hexagon and its Radan CAD/CAM software.
The solution was a Mazak Fabri Gear 220 II laser tube cutter, which was pre-installed with Mazak’s FG-CAD/CAM software powered by Hexagon's Radan Radtube. This automated system streamlined the entire cutting process, introducing features like non-symmetrical tabs to prevent assembly errors. The results were transformative, slashing production time for an apparatus from two days to just half a day. The implementation automated 80% of the manual cutting and preparation work, while also achieving new levels of consistency and part accuracy.
