Case Study: ATCO Electric improves utility data integration and work management with Hexagon

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the ATCO Electric Case Study

Optimizing electric utility network data integration

ATCO Electric, a utility serving customers across Alberta, Canada, faced challenges due to its use of two disparate systems for managing work orders and asset locations. These separate systems, IBM Maximo and HxGN NetWorks, caused operational delays, data inaccuracies, and inefficiencies for its field technicians. To create a more complete operational picture, ATCO Electric turned to vendor Hexagon for a solution involving its integration framework.

Hexagon implemented a commercial off-the-shelf integration framework to bidirectionally synchronize data between the GIS and asset management systems. This solution automated work and asset management processes, providing field technicians with unified work orders containing both asset and location data. The result was significantly improved data accuracy after a major cleansing effort, leading to more efficient work planning, better asset management decisions, and the ability to justify capital requests with improved analytics. According to ATCO Electric, Hexagon's integration ensured their data will remain accurate and synchronized for decades to come.
