Norlec, one of the UK's largest sheet metal subcontractors, faced challenges with customer demand for shorter lead times and smaller batch quantities, which made their previous nesting methods inefficient. To maintain competitiveness and improve manufacturing flexibility, they turned to Hexagon and implemented the intelligent Project Nesting function within the RADAN CAD/CAM software.

The solution from Hexagon allowed Norlec to automatically nest different components from various customers onto a single sheet, dramatically increasing sheet utilization from 60-70% to over 80%. This efficiency with material usage provided significant cost savings that were passed on to customers. Furthermore, RADAN reduced order processing time from several days or weeks to just a few hours, enabling Norlec to meet faster production speeds and manage complex parts more effectively.
