Case Study: City of Newport News improves public safety and dispatcher efficiency with Hexagon video surveillance and CAD integration

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the City of Newport News Case Study

Newport News used Hexagon technology to consolidate live video feeds into a common operating picture for more effective surveillance, better situational awareness, and multi-agency collaboration

The City of Newport News was challenged by the inefficiency of its video surveillance program. While cameras had helped reduce crime, dispatchers at the public safety answering point (PSAP) found monitoring numerous feeds outside of their primary workstation to be cumbersome and detrimental to response times. The city engaged Hexagon's Safety & Infrastructure division to integrate its video feeds directly into the CAD system used by dispatchers.

Hexagon implemented a video surveillance software solution that seamlessly merged live video with the dispatch workflow. This provided operators with real-time insight into events, automatic notifications, and the ability to view multiple feeds from their CAD workstation without leaving their posts. The result was significantly improved situational awareness for dispatchers, faster and more informed dispatching of first responders, and a more effective use of the city's video investment to enhance public safety.
