MSC Apex’s Python scripting & customization reduces modeling and simulation time by 40%

Haver & Boecker Niagara, a provider of screening and crushing systems for the mining industry, faced a time-consuming and complex design process for its vibrating screens. The traditional finite element analysis (FEA) workflow was linear and lengthy, taking weeks to create a solver-ready model from a 2D sketch. They challenged vendor Hexagon to help speed up development and integrate with their existing 15-year database of MSC Nastran simulations.

Hexagon implemented its MSC Apex software, which significantly shortened modeling time with geometry and meshing tools. A key feature was Python scripting, which Hexagon's support team helped customize to automate repetitive tasks. This new solution enabled a shift from a sequential to a parallel design and analysis workflow. The results included a 40% reduction in development time, cutting model creation from 2-3 weeks to less than one week, while maintaining accuracy and leveraging legacy data.
