MSC Apex reduces time required to analyze aircraft avionics door for damage scenarios by 60%

DEMA SpA, a major aerospace supplier, faced a significant challenge in analyzing structural damage scenarios for a new avionics bay door. The traditional process of manually editing the CAD geometry and preparing the model for each of the four required damage analyses was extremely time-consuming, projected to take 80 hours. The company turned to the vendor Hexagon and its product, MSC Apex, to streamline this workflow.

Using Hexagon's MSC Apex Modeler for direct geometry editing, DEMA engineers drastically reduced the time needed to modify the door's design for each damage scenario. This solution cut the geometry modification time by 75% per scenario. The overall process for all four scenarios was reduced from a projected 80 hours to just 32 hours, a 60% reduction. Hexagon's solution also provides a path for further efficiency gains with additional modules, projecting future time savings of 67.5%.
