A Hexagon Case Study
Morinaga Milk Industry Co., a Japanese dairy and food products manufacturer, faced challenges in optimizing its production equipment to ensure high-quality cream. Their goal was to minimize stress on the unstable product during the cooling and stirring process in storage tanks, which was previously designed based on experience and knowledge rather than quantitative analysis. To mathematically evaluate and improve this process, they turned to vendor Hexagon and began using its Cradle CFD software, specifically SC/Tetra, for computational fluid dynamics simulations.
Hexagon's solution involved using SC/Tetra to model and analyze fluid flow and heat transfer within the cream storage tanks. By simulating different impeller designs and rotation patterns, Morinaga Milk engineers identified a new configuration that minimized shear stress, improved temperature homogeneity, and enhanced cooling efficiency. This led to successfully enhanced tank performance, production efficiency, and product quality. The visualization capabilities of Hexagon's software were crucial for understanding the complex phenomena and communicating findings, empowering the company to tackle more complicated analyses for future product development.
