Mahindra accurately predicts ride and handling performance using frequency dependent damper modelling with Machine Learning

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, a major automotive manufacturer, faced a challenge in accurately predicting vehicle ride and handling performance. Their traditional method for modeling dampers did not correlate well with the performance of modern frequency selective dampers (FSDs), which required extensive subjective testing during vehicle development.

Vendor Hexagon provided a solution using its ODYSSEE CAE platform to create a machine learning model from FSD test data. This model was integrated into a full-vehicle simulation in Adams Car. The result was a highly accurate virtual damper that drastically improved prediction reliability. This innovation significantly reduced the testing timeline for Mahindra’s Vehicle Dynamics team, moving the damper selection process into the simulation phase.
