A Hexagon Case Study
LUFKIN Industries, a manufacturer of high-precision industrial gearing, faced the challenge of its 3D coordinate measuring machines becoming obsolete. The aging equipment had longer cycle times, outdated electronics and computer systems, and could not meet the company's specific need for greater precision and a move to a numerical order system. To resolve this, they partnered with Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence for a retrofit solution.
Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence implemented a comprehensive retrofit of the measuring machines, which included updating the electronics, redoing all wiring and connections, implementing a new compensation matrix, and installing new PC-DMIS metrology software. The result was a precision level virtually identical to that of a new machine. This upgrade ensured the measuring center was no longer obsolete, becoming a key tool for LUFKIN to showcase its quality level to customers and auditors, while guaranteeing performance and longevity.
