LNG Joint Venture Utilizes Smart Cloud for FEED

The customer, an LNG joint venture including a lead operator and three other global energy companies, faced the challenge of designing and building a new liquefied natural gas export terminal in British Columbia. Their goal was to create a world-class facility to export natural gas, requiring a collaborative and efficient process from initial design through to future operations. To meet this challenge, they partnered with vendor Hexagon and utilized its suite of SmartPlant products, including SmartPlant Enterprise for Owner Operators, delivered via the Intergraph Smart Cloud platform.

Hexagon provided a data-centric, cloud-based solution that facilitated real-time information-sharing among all partners and contractors, regardless of their location. This approach enabled the reuse of existing plant data and connected the customer's equipment catalog to planning tools. The solution streamlined the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase and ensured a seamless handover to subsequent project stages. Experts from the lead operator estimated that by avoiding rework, this Hexagon solution would achieve project savings of 1.5 percent.
