Leitz CMMs with QUINDOS test the accuracy of engine components

Audi's Hungarian engine manufacturing subsidiary, Audi Hungary, faced the challenge of ensuring the quality and accuracy of its complex engine components, especially a new and intricate camshaft generation. The demanding production volume and the parts' complexity required a highly precise and reliable metrology solution for 100% testing commitment. Hexagon provided its high-precision Leitz coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), including the Reference model, all powered by QUINDOS metrology software.

The solution from Hexagon centered on deploying multiple Leitz CMMs to handle various measurement tasks. The Leitz Reference CMM with an integrated rotary table provided an economic and stable solution for the complex inspection of camshaft components. This implementation by Hexagon significantly improved processes; for example, cylinder bore analysis time was cut in half from one hour to just thirty minutes. The QUINDOS software also allowed Audi to standardize measurement across different machine brands, increasing versatility and simplifying programming, which resulted in high process stability based on speed and accuracy.
