Case Study: NOV Profab achieves submillimeter quality control efficiency with Hexagon metrology

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the NOV Profab Case Study

Large-scale metrology for oil industry production

NOV Profab, a manufacturer of large-scale equipment for the oil industry, faced a challenge in achieving the submillimetre-level accuracy required for its machined parts. Their existing quality assurance equipment was not capable of meeting these stringent demands, which were critical for projects like floating storage regasification units. This led them to seek a new solution from vendor Hexagon.

Hexagon implemented its Leica Absolute Tracker AT403, used with a Leica B-Probe and SpatialAnalyzer software. This solution provided the high accuracy, large 160-meter measurement range, and portability needed for NOV Profab's vast workshop. The results were significant, with tasks that previously took half a day now providing immediate on-the-spot tolerance checks. Hexagon's solution drastically increased efficiency and became a central tool for quality control.
