A Hexagon Case Study
The customer, a large-scale laser measurement technology company, was faced with the challenge of automating the positioning and inspecting the massive 576-meter RATAN-600 radio telescope, which required a surface measurement accuracy of 0.3 millimeters. Hexagon’s manufacturing intelligence division was engaged to provide a solution for this complex task.
The solution implemented by Hexagon utilized a combination of its laser measurement technologies. A Leica Absolute Tracker AT403 established a reference network, while a Leica Absolute Tracker ATS600 with direct scanning functionality was used to rapidly and accurately scan the main mirror's surface. Hexagon’s technology enabled the task to be completed in minimal time, successfully meeting the stringent accuracy requirement and ensuring the telescope's readiness for precise astronomical observations.
