Large Azimuthal Telescope Company - Customer Case Study

The Large Azimuthal Telescope Company, operator of the largest optical telescope in Eurasia, required a solution to correct for positional errors and structural deformations that were affecting its high-altitude observations. To address this challenge, they worked with Hexagon, utilizing its advanced laser tracker technology.

Hexagon's solution involved using a Leica Absolute Tracker ATS600 laser tracker, which was uniquely tilt-mounted to the telescope's structure. This setup, combined with a Leica NIVEL220 inclinometer, enabled specialists to perform precise geometric control by measuring shifts in the optical system across the telescope's full range of motion. The data collected allowed for real-time positional corrections, ensuring the stability and accuracy needed for high-quality astrophysical research.
