A Hexagon Case Study
The customer, Krones AG, was facing a significant challenge in its automated blow mould production where thermal expansion of machining spindles was causing its standard touch probes to overheat. This thermal growth, particularly in the Z-axis, led to unreliable and falsified measurement values, which compromised manufacturing tolerances and process reliability.
Hexagon's m&h division provided the solution with its thermally insulated THERMO-LOCK® touch probe. This product features a patented insulator that prevents heat transfer from the spindle, eliminating thermal expansion of the probe. The implementation by Hexagon immediately delivered stable and reliable measurement values, ensuring greater process reliability, enabling Krones to maintain tight manufacturing tolerances, and avoiding costly rework in its automated production.
