A Hexagon Case Study
Keltech, a sheet metal subcontractor, faced the challenge of utilizing its underused manufacturing capacity to support urgent COVID-19 response efforts for the Irish health service. The company sought to rapidly prototype and produce critical equipment, including medical waste bins, requiring efficient CNC programming and nesting to avoid material wastage. They turned to vendor Hexagon and its RADAN software to meet this challenge.
Using Hexagon's RADAN software, Keltech was able to quickly program its CNC cutting tools, edit toolpaths, and create optimized nests to maximize material yield. This enabled them to design and manufacture a sealed, foot-operated medical waste bin in an initial prototype time of just seven days, with a production batch following three days later. The solution's efficiency allowed Keltech to produce approximately 500 bins per week. The success led to further product development, including a high-capacity hand sanitisation station, with both products generating significant interest from private companies and major brands internationally.
