The Barcelona City Council, a longtime Hexagon customer, faced a challenge with its emergency response coordination. When residents dialed the regional 112 number, call-takers had to transfer them to the city's separate police or fire services, which increased wait times for emergency assistance. The council sought to integrate its Mycelium Dispatch Emergency System, built on Hexagon's CAD technology, with the broader Catalonia 112 system.
Using its Xalt | Integration solution, Hexagon successfully joined the two mission-critical dispatch systems. This integration enables a real-time exchange of approximately 25,000 messages daily to handle over 1,500 incidents. The result is significantly improved emergency response times and service quality for Barcelona's residents, who can now dial a single number without being transferred. The solution also provided improved coordination between agencies and reduced the workload for dispatchers.
