Injury prediction considering the driving posture

JSOL Corporation, an ICT service coordinator, faced the challenge of accurately predicting occupant injuries during car crashes, a task made complex by the future of autonomous vehicles where occupant postures are variable. Their existing method required two separate, time-intensive engineering programs (ADAMS and LS-DYNA) to model the different phases of a crash event. To help its customers build safer vehicles, JSOL partnered with Hexagon and employed its product, ODYSSEE CAE, to streamline this analysis.

Hexagon's solution involved using ODYSSEE CAE to replace both complex software programs with highly accurate Reduced Order Models (ROMs). This coupled model could predict injury values in less than a second, a dramatic improvement over the original 19-hour simulation time, while achieving a 98.6% accuracy rate. The result provided JSOL with a tool that allows non-specialists to quickly obtain reliable results, enabling them to deliver practical safety solutions to their automotive customers.
