Ingersoll Rand - Customer Case Study

Ingersoll Werkzeuge GmbH, a German manufacturer of specialized vibration-free cutting tools and hobbing cutters, faced a challenge in performing precise, efficient inspections for its high-volume, custom products. Each unique tool required its own measuring program, and their previous method of measuring directly on milling machines was extremely time-consuming. They required a highly accurate and fast metrology solution that could handle this variability, leading them to Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence.

Hexagon implemented a Leitz PMM-C coordinate measuring machine with QUINDOS 7 software, which was specially configured to automatically generate inspection programs from input parameters. This solution from Hexagon reduced measurement time to just a tenth of what it was previously, cutting a two-shift process down to approximately 90 minutes, while providing micrometre-level accuracy. This allowed for 100% inspection during production and provided the future flexibility to measure an even wider range of specialized tools.
